What Is Basic Fire Fighting Training and Why Does It Matter?

Basic fire fighting training is for the people who are first on the scene when a fire starts at work. Most fires begin small, and a trained worker with the right extinguisher can often stop one in seconds.

Saudi Labour Law also makes employers protect workers from the risks of their work, and fire is one of the biggest. Trained staff know how to raise the alarm, call Civil Defense on 998 and keep people safe.

Fire Fighting Training Basics: How Fire Starts

Every fire fighting training course starts with the fire triangle. A fire needs three things: heat, fuel and oxygen.Take one away and the fire goes out. Many trainers add a fourth side, the chemical chain reaction, which some extinguishers break. This is called the fire tetrahedron.

Remove heat: cool the fire with water.
Remove fuel: shut off the gas or move the burning material.
Remove oxygen: smother it with foam, CO2 or a fire blanket.

Why Fire Fighting Training Is Important

Why Fire Fighting Training Is Important

A fire at work can cost lives, destroy a business, and shut a site for months. Most serious fires start small and could have been stopped in the first minute, if someone nearby knew what to do.

Training gives your team that knowledge and the confidence to act fast instead of freezing. It also helps your company meet Saudi Civil Defence safety rules and keeps your insurance and audits in order.

Understanding the Fire Triangle

Every fire needs three things to burn: fuel, heat, and oxygen. Together these make the fire triangle. Take any one away, and the fire goes out. This simple idea is the key to all fire fighting: cooling removes heat, smothering removes oxygen, and clearing materials removes fuel. Your team learns to use this in practice with the right extinguisher for each situation.

The Classes of Fire and the Right Extinguisher

Using the wrong extinguisher can make a fire worse, so this course teaches your team to match the extinguisher to the fire:

The fire triangle and how heat moves

Extinguishers, hose reels and fire blankets

The protective clothing and breathing equipment used in fire response, how to wear and check it, and the safety rules that keep you and your team safe while tackling a fire.

The safe ways to approach and attack a small fire, handling a hose and nozzle correctly, using foam where needed, and keeping smoke and heat under control as you work.

How to handle fires involving flammable liquids, electrical equipment, and chemicals, including which extinguisher to use and how to read hazard warning labels before you act.

Raising the alarm, calling the Saudi Civil Defence, working as a team, and using clear communication so everyone knows their role during a fire.

Spotting fire hazards in the workplace, running simple safety checks, good housekeeping, and the habits that stop most fires from ever happening.

Helping someone injured by fire or smoke, treating burns, basic life support, and getting people safely out to the assembly point until help arrives.

Fire Fighting or Fire Warden Training?

These two courses are often confused. Basic fire fighting training teaches you to put out a small fire, while fire warden training teaches you to lead an evacuation.

Many companies train some staff in both. See our fire warden training, fire watch training for hot work, or the wider fire safety training course.
