Safety Courses in Saudi Arabia: How to Choose the Right One

There are many safety courses in Saudi Arabia, and picking the wrong one can cost you time and money. The right course depends on three things: the job you do, what your employer or site asks for, and the type of certificate they want.
A rigger on an oil and gas site, a new team leader and a company trainer all need safety training, but not the same course. This guide explains the main safety courses in Saudi Arabia, which ones suit which jobs, what you can study online, and what to check before you pay.

Site workers: start with the courses your site asks for. The most common are first aid, fire fighting, H2S, confined space entry and working at height.
Lifting and equipment workers: rigger, banksman, crane, forklift and scaffolding courses.
Oil and gas contractors: Work Permit Receiver, gas testing, lockout/tagout and H2S are often on the list.
Supervisors and safety officers: IOSH Managing Safely, OSHA 30, NEBOSH IGC or a safety officer course.
Safety professionals: a Level 6 diploma, such as the NVQ Level 6 or OTHM Level 6.

What Saudi Law Says About Safety Training
Saudi Labour Law makes employers responsible for safety at work. Article 122 says employers must take the steps needed to protect workers from dangers and work-related illness. They must also put up safety instructions in Arabic, and in another language the workers understand when needed.
Article 123 says employers must tell workers about the dangers of their job before they start. They must also give workers the right protective equipment and train them to use it.
The law does not name one course that every worker must have. In real life, the safety courses in Saudi Arabia that a worker needs usually depend on three things:

The Four Types of Safety Certificate
Certificate type | Who is behind it | What it shows | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
TVTC-approved local course | A training center approved by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) | You finished a course the center is approved to run | First aid, fire watch, rigger, confined space entry |
International certificate | A body such as IOSH, NEBOSH, Highfield or IADC, through an approved training center | You passed that body’s test | IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH IGC, Highfield First Aid Level 2 |
OSHA Outreach card | The US OSHA Outreach Training Program, through trainers OSHA has authorized | You finished a short course about workplace dangers. OSHA says the program is voluntary | OSHA 10-Hour, OSHA 30-Hour |
Attendance certificate | The center or website that ran the course | You attended. There may be no test | online safety courses |
A certificate is not the same as permission to do a job. It shows that you finished or passed a course. Your employer still decides if you are ready and allowed to do a certain task on site, such as going inside a confined space.
Some courses teach OSHA rules but give the training center’s own certificate, not an official OSHA Outreach card. Both can be useful. If your employer asks for an “OSHA card”, ask the training center which one you will get.
The Most Popular Safety Courses in Saudi Arabia
The safety courses in Saudi Arabia listed below are the ones employers, contractors and job ads ask for most often. We have grouped them by type, so you can quickly find the ones that match your work.
Most local safety courses in Saudi Arabia take one to five days. International certificates and diplomas take longer, from a few days to several months.
Fire Safety Courses :
Fire training is one of the most common safety courses in Saudi Arabia, because almost every workplace needs people who can act fast in a fire.
Gas and Confined Space Courses :
These courses are in high demand on oil, gas and chemical sites in the Eastern Province. Many sites will not let you start work without them.
Working at Height, Scaffolding and Lifting Courses :
Falls and dropped loads cause many serious accidents on building sites. That is why these safety courses in Saudi Arabia are often needed before you can work on a project.
Driving and Equipment Courses :
Road accidents and machine accidents are a big risk for Saudi workers. These safety courses in Saudi Arabia teach safe habits for drivers and machine operators.
Permit to Work and Hazard Control Courses :
Large sites use permit systems to control risky jobs. Oil and gas contractors, including those on Saudi Aramco projects, often need these safety courses in Saudi Arabia.
First Aid and Health at Work Courses:
First aid is one of the most requested safety courses in Saudi Arabia. Heat safety matters a lot here too, because summer work is very hot.
Chemical and General Safety Courses:
These safety courses in Saudi Arabia cover everyday dangers found on most sites. They suit workers in plants, warehouses and factories.
International Safety Certificates:
International certificates are popular with people who want to work for large companies or move up in their careers. Here are the international safety courses in Saudi Arabia that employers ask for most.
Safety Officer and Career Courses :
If you want to make safety your full-time job, these safety courses in Saudi Arabia can help you move up. Check the entry rules first, because some need earlier study or work experience.
ISO Standards Training :
Many Saudi companies need staff who understand ISO standards, especially when they bid for large contracts. ISO 45001 training is a good next step after other safety courses in Saudi Arabia, and the other standards cover quality, the environment and food.
Each standard can be studied at different levels: awareness (the basics), internal auditor (checking your own company’s system), lead auditor (leading full audits), and implementation (setting the system up in your company). Training helps your team get ready, but only an accredited certification body can award your company an ISO certificate.

Online Safety Courses in Saudi Arabia: What Works and What Doesn’t
Online safety courses in Saudi Arabia work well when the course is about knowledge. They do not work well for skills you have to show with your hands. Many training centers now offer online options, but not every course can be done well on a screen. Use the lists below to see which is which.
Courses That Work Well Online :
Courses That Need Hands-On Practice:
Some skills must be practised in person with a trainer watching. These include first aid and CPR, fire fighting, H2S escape with breathing sets, harness use and rescue at height, rigging, forklift and crane work, and confined space rescue. An online version of these safety courses in Saudi Arabia may only teach the theory, so ask if a practical session is included.
